When a physician falls below the acceptable standard of care in treating a patient and that patient is injured as a result of the doctors failure to meet the standard of care a medical malpractice claim may be filed against the doctor. The same is true with regard to care and treatment by a dentist . When a patient is injured as a result of a dentists failure to meet the appropriate standard of care, a claim can be filed against the dentist. Teeth and other areas of the mouth are frequently injured during dental procedures. While there are risks associated with most medical and dental procedures, many times the harm caused goes beyond the mere risk and rises to malpractice. Further, a dentists failure to properly inform a patient of known risks can lead to a claim of malpractice.
