A recent study has confirmed the importance of checking out the quality of a hospital before you seek treatment at the facility. The study compares the nature of treatment patients receive at "5 star" hospitals as opposed to those ranked lower, some as low as "1 star". Those facilities ranked with 5 stars, had significantly lower death rates than those ranked with less stars.

Before undergoing a procedure at a medical facility, make sure you check into the qualifications of that facility and its doctors. Often times, hospitals associated with academic centers, have better results with regards to various medical procedures. Such hospitals also utilize physicians who are often published in academic periodicals and who establish the standard of care for their specific field of expertise.
