Fellow Injuryboard Blogger Richard R. Schlueter blogs about statistics recently released by the Department of Transportation:

The Department of Transportation's statistics show that there are about 6.5 million auto accidents a year and of those, over 3 million suffer minor to very serous injuries. Of these 3 million injuries 2 million are said to cause permanent injuries and over 40,000 of them end in death each year.

When you are injured in an auto accident, do not hesitate to file an insurance claim with either the responsible party's insurance company or with your own insurance company under an uninsured motorist claim. The reason we buy insurance is to protect ourselves and others from the mishaps of life. When we are responsible for injury to another, accidentally or otherwise, it is our responsibility to step up and bear the burden of these losses, not the responsibility of the injured victim. We pay our premiums to our insurance companies to do just that.

Do not be influenced by the hundred million dollar PR campaign launched by the Insurance industry to dissuade injured victims from rightfully filing a claim. For years the subtle push by the insurance trade has been to convince the general public that those people that file claims are "bad people" or "one of those types of people. " The truth is victims that file insurance claims are the "kind" of people that are willing to stand up for themselves and protect their legal rights. They are the kind of people that will not let the billion dollar insurance companies walk all over them or take compensation rightfully owed and needed to pay for medical bills and reimbursement of lost wages out of their pockets while continuing to stuff the insurance company coffers. Remember, insurance companies are in the business of making money. They take your premiums in and try to pay out as little as possible. So when injured in a car accident, take advantage of the protections available to you and file your insurance claim.
