Our firm applauds the determined efforts of the Summit County Prosecutor's Office in Akron Ohio to attack and eliminate DUI incidents to the fullest extent possible, the results of which can be seen at http://www.co.summit.oh.us/prosecutor/Our firm takes pride in representing victims of drunk driving and we have some of the larger jury verdicts in the counties of Northeast, Ohio. One of the most worrisome times for parents is when their children approach that age at which they are allowed to drive a car. Car crashes are the leading cause of death for 16 to 20 year olds. As a result of this statistic, some states are considering increasing the age at which one can obtain a license and also limiting who can be in a vehicle with a teenager who is driving. The hope is...

As the return of snow and cold reminds us that we are still in winter, and the unusually mild temperatures were just a fluke, drivers are reminded to drive with caution.Several motor vehicle accidents have been caused due to snow and black ice, compounded by drivers on cell phones, driving on poor tread tires, or travelling too fast for conditions. When travelling in wintery conditions, be sure...

I was shocked to read the recent posting by Columbus Attorney Scott Smith regarding emergency room doctors and nurses that don't test patients for drug and alcohol use for fear that the costs of the procedure would be denied by insurance companies. A 1953 Ohio insurance law permits health insurance companies to deny claims for injuries that result from alcohol or drug use so it appears that...

A train derailment in Shepardsville, Kentucky has resulted in a chemical explosion and the subsequent evacuation of local residents as well as the shut down of a nearby highway. The CSX train was approximately 80 cars long. The blaze produced a massive column of black smoke in the mostly rural area. Television footage showed several blazing cars stacked across the rail lines and flaming liquid...

Late Sunday night, a case of road rage shut down a local highway. After weaving in and out of traffic, apparently involved in a serious case of road rage with another driver for more than 4 miles, a 19 year-old boy crossed over the median and crashed into a tractor trailer. The driver was doing 80 mph when he crossed over into the other lane of traffic. The driver of the other speeding car...

Many drivers assume that just because a police officer gives you a ticket as a result of a motor vehicle accident, that you are at fault and must pay the ticket. If you believe that you are not at fault, fight the ticket. The process is not that difficult and many times one appearance in court can lead to the ticket being dismiised or being reduced to a lesser infraction. If you wish to accept...

Multi car pileups on the highway present challenging cases within motor vehicle accident litigation. Often, a chain reaction cause for the crash is a challenge to prove who was responsible. Injured motorists would be wise to consult an attorney rather than try and sort through the insurance nightmare on their own, although a person is certainly permitted to handle their own case.

In an effort to eliminate drunk driving, Toyota recently announced that it is developing a system for its cars which will detect whether the driver is intoxicated. Cars fitted with the detection system will not start if sweat sensors in the driving wheel detect high levels of alcohol in the driver's bloodstream, according to a report carried by the mass-circulation daily, Asahi Shimbun.The...

With the high price of gas remaining a continuous concern for most Americans, the sale of small cars has dramatically increased. Car buyers should be aware however that with the purchase of a small vehicle comes the increased risk of serious injury should a car accident occur. Crash test ratings for subcompact cars , show that even the safest subcompact cannot overcome its inherent size and...

A 71-year-old Illinois woman was recently awarded $4.1 Million for injuries suffered after a van driver ran a red light and crashed into her car. The driver of the van was on his way to a job for his employer and trying to navigate using his BlackBerry handheld device. When questioned later, the man could not even recall whether the light was red or green, but witnesses testified that the...

Time is money to truck drivers who are often paid by the trip rather than by the hour. Compensation by the trip is a telling factor indicative of a turn away from safety in the trucking industry where freight companies have become far less concerned about how a driver gets the product delivered than whether the product is delivered on time. This is simply a recipe for disaster which we have...

Drunk driving heightens the risk of serious motor vehicle accidents. If you are injured by a driver who fails to exercise good judgment, you probably should call a lawyer.

After enjoying unusually warm weather in the Cleveland area in November, the winter weather has now hit and is creating havoc on local roads. With the bad weather comes a higher number of car accidents. The increase in accidents should be a reminder to all drivers that during our winter months, extreme caution should be used when driving. Slow down! Give yourself more time to get to your...

As winter approaches, please be sure to drive carefully, be sure your tires have good tread, and leave extra time to make your commute so as to avoid being in a rush when bad weather hits. Most drivers who take these steps will have no problems. It's the other drivers on the road to woory about.Other drivers who are careless in bad weather and cause motor vehicle accidents and injury should be...
